Online Counseling: Frequently Asked Questions
What is online counselling, and how does it work?
Online counselling is therapy that happens over secure video, the same as sitting in a room with a counsellor, just from wherever you are. You book a session, get a private link, and meet your counsellor face to face on screen. All you need is a device with a camera, a stable internet connection, and a quiet space where you can speak freely.
Is online counselling as effective as meeting in person?
For most concerns, yes. Research shows online counselling works as well as in-person sessions for things like anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma. Many people find it easier to open up from their own space. The relationship with your counsellor is what does the work, and that connection comes through clearly on video.
What happens in the free consultation?
It's a short, no-pressure conversation, about 20 minutes. You can share what's bringing you in, ask questions, and get a feel for how we work. There's nothing you need to prepare ahead of time. If it feels like a fit, we'll book your first session. If not, that's completely okay.
What if I don't click with my counsellor?
Fit matters, and sometimes it takes meeting someone to know. If your counsellor isn't the right match, just tell us and we'll help you find someone who is. The goal is the right fit for you, not just any appointment.
How much does counselling cost, and is it covered by insurance?
Our current rates are listed on our Fees and Insurance page. Many extended health plans cover sessions with registered counsellors, though coverage depends on your specific plan and your counsellor's designation. We provide receipts you can submit to your insurer.
Where in Canada can I access your counsellors?
We offer online counselling to clients across Canada. Because professional registration can vary from province to province, we'll confirm during your consultation that we're able to work with you where you live.
