Gestalt Therapy

“ A basic gestalt principle is to accentuate that which exists rather than merely attempting to change it. Nothing can change until it is first accepted. ”

Feeling stuck in your life?

In our daily life we frequently miss the moment of where we are and what is around us. Too often what we have now is sacrificed for the future or made dull by looking into the past.

Gestalt is a well established, well known therapeutic approach and is increasingly popular with people looking for a practical, positive way to address problems and effect change in their lives. Being in the present we have the opportunity to take in our hands the tangible world around us, and from here we can choose what we would like to do next. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD or other challenges that are impacting your life, Gestalt therapy can help you with the issues that you find hard to face on your own.

Inspired by the German word for ‘whole’, Gestalt Therapy is a humanistic method of psychotherapy that takes a holistic approach to the human experience. Simply put, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” You can’t understand an individual’s behaviour without taking into account the environment in which they are in and neither is an individual a mere product of their environment. In this way, Gestalt therapy honours and recognizes the uniqueness of each individual.

Our counsellors will help you reconnect with yourself.

Gestalt therapy, stresses individual responsibility and awareness of your present psychological and physical needs in the ‘here and now.”

A key element in Gestalt therapy is to help you come to an awareness of what you are doing and experiencing. Gestalt works by delving into the experience of who you are and requires you to know and own your thoughts, emotions, and movements (the somatic sensations of your experience). You will be encouraged to talk about what’s going on now instead of talking about the past.

Our approach to counselling and psychotherapy supports the process of reconnecting with your inner wisdom, so you can heal and grow.

We view counselling as a joint process between you and your counsellor working towards a common goal — to empower change and improve the quality of your life — both now and in the future.

As mental health care professionals, our purpose is to help you identify your obstacles, help you find your path and discover opportunities for growth along the way.

We will look at your current situation more in-depth to help you understand what’s holding you back and what’s causing you to feel so overwhelmed. From there we will get to the heart of your difficulties, and help you tap into your intuition so you can better manage or resolve what’s troubling you, now and in the future.

Our goal is that by the end of our sessions you will not only have found relief, but you will feel empowered to boldly grow forward towards the life you want.

Or, let us help you find that right therapist fit.

The form takes less than 60 seconds to complete, and we’ll reach out with a couple of options for a free 20 minute consultation.
